Where is my mind…?
The mail arrives. Albert walks out to the front yard and opens the mail box to be greeted by the hard copy of his acceptance letter to UCI.
A few days ago he had received UCLA’s admission decision; “we regret to inform you…” was burned into his eyes like sunspots. His feelings of the rejection bounced back and fourth, up and down the spectrum; at first he was glad he wasn’t accepted - Irvine suited him much better. And then feelings of bitterness, anger, resentment, sadness, and regret came crashing in. He felt he was not intelligent, not worth much, not worth anything.
But it was for the best. “You make the most of of what you receive and there’s no time to look back”, he told himself. Also he will be surrounded by close friends and family in Irvine and Irvine really does suit him better.
